What patients say on Google

I’ve relied on Prairie Care for my mental health drug management since 2020–an appointment about every 3 months—and been treated there with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) twice. I can’t say enough positive things about the TMS program. Outstanding staff, patient relations, etc. On the other hand, the professionals helping with my meds were mostly competent, but just that. I’ve had far better experiences over the past 30 years everywhere else I’ve lived during a career that’s a half dozen East Coast and Midwest Cities. Okay relationships but only that. In the past 6 mos. I’ve had prescriptions that were improperly written and ones sent to wrong pharmacies. Unacceptable, especially since these were for meds I’ve taken over a decade without any change in dosage. Recently Prairie Care by their own admission “lost”the record of an appointment I’d scheduled related to a time sensitive matter. I showed up, they apologized, but then couldn’t reschedule me until the next week—not good in an acute situation. Most recently they failed to forward my medical records to my new psychiatrist despite several follow-up reminders. Yikes. I’m a glass is half-full person and don’t rush to judgements but their record over 6 years is what it is. Again, the TMS team rocks so don’t hesitate to use Prairie Care for that purpose.

While in adult PHP, I constantly felt as though I was less than, not worth their time, and unwelcome. This program made symptoms much worse, and validated my feelings of being worthless and taking up too much space. I highly recommend finding another facility. This program is completely unorganized and constantly running late, and never enforced rules/guidelines evenly among patients. We would miss ~45min of scheduled program per day waiting for patients and staff to arrive (calculating to ~18.5 hours throughout the entire program). The tardiness made this program almost a complete waste of time, and definitely made it a waste of money. When dealing with very difficult or triggering things, but you're not as "bad" as others or you come across as "okay", they'll prioritize and favor other patients while leaving you to fend for yourself. I got the feeling that I needed to cry more, be triggered more, actively self-harm, go to inpatient, etc in order to receive any individualized help. A few examples: I asked for assistance with paperwork (never got it), medications were consistently mismanaged (I've missed one of my meds for ~3 weeks now because they made mistakes and didn't communicate with my pharmacy), and we're supposed to meet with the therapist each week and on our last day (the therapist was out for 2 weeks of my time there and never made it up, and they didn't meet with me on the last day because "it got crazy"). When bringing up concerns, the only response received was "well, we want people to be comfortable". Well, what happens when other people aren't okay or comfortable with it? I stopped being fully vulnerable and honest with staff because it was obvious they didn't care even through the boiler plate "we care about you", "you're worth it", etc.

I am giving one star only because the system requires a rating. Otherwise, I would not give any stars. Before enrolling my daughter in PrairieCare, I clearly communicated that our family takes a holistic approach and that I did not want my daughter given medication without consulting me first. I specifically asked that I be contacted if medication was ever being considered. Despite this request, my daughter was given Benadryl to help with a panic attack without my consent. She later told me she felt pressured to take it because staff told her she needed to. This went directly against what I had communicated as her parent. As soon as I learned what happened, I withdrew my daughter from the program. I enrolled her to receive support for her mental health, not to have medications administered against my wishes. Parents should be aware of how these situations may be handled and ask very clear questions about medication policies before enrolling their child. For families who prefer holistic or non pharmaceutical approaches, I would recommend carefully considering other options. Stay away from this place!!

I’m actually glad I didn’t read the reviews before starting care here, because they likely would have heightened my anxiety. PrairieCare’s DBT outpatient program has been wonderful. I feel genuinely cared for, and the staff is extremely supportive and compassionate. This program is already making a meaningful difference in my journey, and I’m grateful for the care I’m receiving.
